Installing "pegheds" tip

Just a photo I made when installing a set of mechanical pegs from pegheds.com

The installation instructions say that we should drill a 7mm hole and ream the hole to a size so that the pegs are a few milimeters from going all the way through to their final position.
We are then supposed to "cut" a thread in the headstocks wood by turning in the peg   and using the threaded shaft of the peg to do the cutting. We shall turn the shaft of the peg and never turn the head of the peg.
This turning and cutting the thread can be hard for our fingers, so it helps to turn a rubberband around the shaft. As simple as that. My fingers not as good as they were and these little tips help a lot.
 I didn´t find out this by myself, but because I recently installed a set of "pegheds" on a fiddle and the instructions for the pegs said to do use a rubberband. Violin pegs are smaller, meaning that its more difficult to get a good grip on the peg shaft and besides that, you have to cut the thread in maple which is a lot harder than the Spanish cedar used on flamenco guitars.

Installing geared pegs

I´m building a peghead which´ll have 8mm pegheds (Ramirez) from pegheds.com. They have an internal 1:4 gearratio. I´ve made a preintallation. I´ll leave there untill after the French polish. The pegs still need to enter a few more milimeters, but since I´ll have to clean up after FP, the reamer is not going to be used more for now.

starting guitars 106 - 108

Between French polishing sessions, and other projects, I have slowly started the building of guitars 106, 107 and 108. So far I´ve made the headstock, joined the soundboard, made the rosettes, and taken the soundboards down to final thickness. The 3 guitars are really sisters. 3 pegheads with the same scale and nut width, but each one has its little pecial thing.

#106 is going to Germany and it´ll have geared pegs from pegheds.com

#107 is going to the UK and is going to have an inlayed soundport:

#108 is going to Australia and its going to be orange:

The soundboards are from the same German spruce tree, so they´ll share some genes there.

Starting 2 new guitars

First of all happy new year.

I have started the building of 2 flamenco guitars which will be finished and for sale around April. Maybe a bit before.

So this is a bit out of the normal. A Peghead blanca with a cedar soundboard, an inlayed soundport and mechanical pegs (pegheds)  Sound and setup is absolutely top notch. I will try to make a video soon.
